Frederic Himebaugh is best known to the world of science fiction as the graphic novel reviewer for the Hugo Award-winning podcast StarShipSofa. Fred has worn many other hats for that show over the years: guest commentator, book reviewer, narrator and song writer. His latest role is that of assistant editor of Protecting Project Pulp.
Fred’s song “Earth Girl” and his science fiction jazz chamber opera “They’re Made Out of Meat” (a setting of the famous story by Terry Bisson) were heard first on the StarShipSofa and have been sold on iTunes and Amazon.com.
Fred’s music compositions have been performed by choirs such as the Ann Arbor Cantata Singers and the San Francisco Choral Artists. His latest premiere was entitled “The Moon That Dreamed of Earth”, based on his story of the same name.
Fred’s fiction has appeared in Thaumatrope, the Twitter Fiction Magazine. He blogged for many years on the topics of choral music, science fiction, and the (occasional) intersection of the two, at Fredosphere.com. The “Fredösphere” has been called “my favorite new blog” by Alex Ross, music critic of the New Yorker. He regularly contributes political satire as a member of Ricochet.com.
Fred holds a Masters Degree in Music from the University of Michigan and a Masters in Information Systems from Easter Michigan University. By day he wears the costume of a programmer of CAD software. He and his family live in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
